Couples Therapy

Strengthening Relationships Through Evidence-Based Couples Counseling

Relationships can be one of the greatest sources of support, connection, and meaning in our lives. They can also become strained by communication difficulties, unresolved conflict, life transitions, trust concerns, parenting challenges, military stressors, infidelity, emotional disconnection, financial stress, and differing expectations.

Couples Therapy provides a structured and supportive environment where both partners can be heard, understood, and guided toward healthier patterns of communication and connection.

Dr. Alma Pozo-Breen utilizes evidence-based approaches including:

  • Gottman Method Couples Therapy

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

  • Trauma-Informed Interventions

  • Communication and Conflict Resolution Skills

  • Attachment-Based Strategies

Couples may seek therapy to:

  • Improve communication

  • Rebuild trust after betrayal or infidelity

  • Reduce conflict and defensiveness

  • Strengthen emotional intimacy

  • Navigate parenting and blended family concerns

  • Address military and deployment-related stressors

  • Improve problem-solving skills

  • Clarify relationship goals and expectations

  • Strengthen commitment and connection

What to Expect

Couples sessions focus on understanding relationship patterns rather than assigning blame. Both partners are encouraged to actively participate, complete therapeutic exercises between sessions, and attend sessions consistently to maximize progress.

Weekly sessions are strongly recommended during the initial phase of treatment to build momentum and establish meaningful change.

Fees and Investment

Couples Therapy Session (50–60 minutes): $275

Insurance coverage for couples therapy varies by plan and carrier. In some cases, services may be billed through insurance when clinically appropriate. Clients are responsible for verifying their benefits, deductible requirements, co-pays, and coverage limitations directly with their insurance provider before treatment.

A limited number of reduced-fee, insurance-based couples therapy appointments may be available at the practice's discretion.

Scheduling and Attendance

Couples therapy appointments are reserved exclusively for both partners. Consistent attendance is essential for therapeutic progress.

When advance notice is provided regarding vacations, work obligations, military commitments, or other planned absences, efforts can be made to accommodate scheduling needs. Providing advance notice also allows appointment times to be offered to individuals on the practice waitlist.
